Hillier's hands raises £6,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support

8:30am Sunday 26th October 2008

HILLIER Garden Centres has raised more than £6,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

The charity was adopted by Hillier’s, that has stores in Winchester and Romsey, as its charity of the year during 2007 and 2008 and staff and customers helped raise money.

Hillier’s partnership with Macmillan began in September 2007, when garden centres across the South and Midlands took part in Macmillan’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning, raising over £2,000 in one day.

An additional £4,100.57, presented to Macmillan by Hillier Garden Centres’ Managing Director Andy McIndoe, was raised through fixed price donations on plants, raffles at Easter and Christmas and the individual efforts of customers and employees. Two Centre managers, Stuart Blight and Nick Robey, cycled from Winchester to Horsham last Spring to raise funds. Hillier Garden Centres have also raised funds through placing Macmillan collecting tins in all centres and by selling the charity’s pin badges and seasonal Reindeer Dust, which will be on sale again in Hillier Centres this December. Macmillan Cancer Support improves the lives of people affected by cancer, providing practical, medical, emotional and financial support.
