A PRISONER was found hanged in his cell on the Isle of Wight today, the prison service said.
Tom Collister, 23, was found hanging in his cell at HMP Camp Hill in Newport shortly before 7.30am.
He was serving a 20-month sentence for damaging property.
A Prison Service spokesman said: ''Camp Hill prisoner Tom Collister was found hanging in his cell at 7.22am.
''Staff attempted to revive him but sadly he was pronounced dead shortly afterwards.
''Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Mr Collister.''
His death will be investigated by the prisons and probation ombudsman.
