POLICE say the 24-year-old soldier who died suddenly in married quarters in Tidworth early on Monday morning was not the victim of foul play.
"The soldier who died has been identified as Naivote Tuisavura and the family notified of his death," said a spokesman for Wiltshire police.
"The post mortem has been conducted and further tests are awaited but the interim findings are that he died from acute alcohol poisoning.
"Although he had been subjected to a minor assault at this stage it does not appear to be connected to his death."
Wiltshire Police had earlier launched a murder investigation together with the Royal Military Police's special investigation branch and arrested a 27-year-old soldier for questioning at Salisbury police station.
He was later released on police bail.
