Detectives have released details of the missing handbag belonging to a murdered grandmother.

CCTV showing Georgina Edmonds, 77, carrying the bag as she went shopping the day before she died is being examined by officers.

They are desperate to trace the bag, which has not been seen since her body was discovered at her home in Brambridge, near Eastleigh, on January 11.

The handbag is a black Radley bag with the Radley Scottish green or turquoise terrier logo badge attached to it.

The team investigating the murder have now released a picture of the bag in the hope that members of the public will recognise it.

Detective Chief Inspector, Paul Barton, said: "Mrs Edmond's body was discovered in the kitchen of her home on Kiln Lane, Brambridge. We believe her handbag was also in the kitchen and that it may have been taken by the offender.

"We have released this image in hope that someone may have found this item.

"This is still very much an active investigation and we are asking the community to come forward with information to help us.

"We have examined CCTV images of Mrs Edmonds carrying a handbag, which contained her keys and Lloyds cash card and cheque book, amongst other items when it went missing.

"I would like to appeal to anyone who may have seen a bag matching this description discarded in the area. I would also like to hear from anyone who may have been offered this bag for sale or any charity shops that may have been given a bag like this since January 11."

Officers from Avon and Somerset Constabulary's diving team have been assisting the murder investigation team.

The diving team have been searching the river near to Mrs Edmonds's home in Kiln Lane and will be looking for any discarded items which may help the inquiry.

DCI Barton added: "We are still appealing to members of the community to search their gardens and bins for any unusual items which may have been discarded.

"This is still very much an active investigation and we are asking the community to come forward with information to help us. If you have found any unusual discarded items or have any information about this missing handbag, please get in touch immediately and help us find the person or people responsible for this appalling crime."
