Funeral of young rugby player
THE funeral of a keen rugby player who tragically died after choking on a sandwich will be held next week.
Peter Corlett, pictured right, who played for Ellingham and Ringwood Rugby Club, was due to marry his fiancée Charmaine next month.
The 32-year-old, who lived in Verwood and was a partner with his father and brother in their building firm Corlett & Son, died at a beach rugby festival on the Isle of Wight on June 28.
He had played in the first match of the day and had eaten lunch but was found lying unconscious on the beach by a fellow player.
Despite attempts at resuscitation he died. A post mortem found he had choked on a sandwich.
Steve Benson, chairman of the rugby club, said: "Pete will be a huge loss, not just to his family and the rugby club, but to the whole Ringwood community. He was a fantastic guy, who I am proud to have had as a friend.
Mr Corlett had played for the club since leaving school and last season was a member of the 1st XV squad that won both Hampshire Division 1 and the Hampshire Bowl.
His funeral will be held at the parish church in Ringwood Market Place at 2pm next Monday.
His family has decided to raise money in his memory for Access to Sport, a charity helping young people transform their lives through sport.
Donations should be made payable to Access to Sport and sent to Barrow Brothers, 29A Southampton Road, Ringwood BH24 1HB.
