TWENTY jobs will be created when the new Southern Co-operative store opens in Romsey.
BBC South Today and Radio Solent presenter, Sally Taylor, will officially open the shop, based at the former Woolworth’s premises in The Hundred, on July 17, at 11am.
Extensive conversion work has been carried out since Southern Co-operative took over the building.
Southern Co-operative’s corporate marketing adviser, Sue King, said: ‘The refurbishment costs are in the region of £500,000 and 20 jobs will be created.
“The store will feature a premium supermarket range of products, with a heavy focus on fresh food, including an in-store bakery and a range of locally- sourced products will be introduced.”
She added that Southern Co-operative’s Community Support Card scheme would operate at the store.
“Through this scheme, the society will donate 2p for every pound spent to a chosen local good cause when customers have their special community support cards swiped at point of purchase.
“The scheme has proved very successful in other Southern Co-operative stores, with amounts of up to £25,000 being raised for various local groups,” she added.
