Bicycles, old and new, but all destined for medics in Uganda toured Romsey’s steets on a wet and cold Saturday morning.
They and their riders were advertising the tent in the Cornmarket where members of Romsey’s two Rotary Clubs were telling people about their activities in this area and around the world.
The event resulted in more offers of bikes towards the target of 450 for the Rec-Cycle project, donations of used glasses for Vision Aid Overseas, increased visibility for Landford-based charity Dentaid and for Life Education Centres helping school children across Hampshire make healthy lifestyle choices.
Visitors to the tent were invited to guess the total distance covered in 2009 by the 640 walkers in the annual Walk the Test Way event. The winner, Ann Richards from North Baddesley, was within 328 miles of the 8,595 mile total. Pictured above: the bikes for the Re-Cycle project set off around Romsey. They include a Raleigh Sport that had been a 21st birthday present (in 1949), a wonderful Pashley ladies’ bike donated by a doctor in Broughton and the first bike donated; a Dawes Aristocrat from Awbridge.
