Romsey rallies to help needy of Test Valley
10:00am Monday 30th July 2012 in Romsey
RESIDENTS across the Test Valley struggling to put food on the table are to benefit from the generosity of the people in Romsey.
The first-ever Andover Foodbank collection at the Co-op in Romsey gave customers a chance to find out more about what the charity does in the Romsey and North Baddesley area and donate – they gave 72.78kg and £10.69.
This was just one of several supermarkets in the area targeted by volunteers collecting over the last few weeks, with others being Tesco, in River Way, Andover, where 367.02kg and £27.37 was donated; Asda in Andover, where volunteers collected 376.30kg and £25.18; and Waitrose, in Andover, where 281.72kg and £89.13 was donated.
Andover Foodbank serves Test Valley, distributing food donated by churches, businesses and individuals to those in need referred by frontline care professionals.
During the school holidays, the foodbank sees a spike in food required for those younger members of our community who receive free school meals during term time.
The Andover Foodbank said it was grateful for the support shown by the supermarkets and all their customers and that, without such donations, the foodbank would not be able to support those in crisis.
