EASTLEIGH had a few grumpy players at training yesterday, according to manager Richard Hill.

So keen are the Spitfires to keep their burgeoning play-off push going that Saturday’s postponement at Truro City was hard to swallow.

Eastleigh had travelled down on Friday for an overnight stay, but the news came through at 10.30am on Saturday that the game was off. It has now been rearranged for Tuesday, April 9 – a week before Truro are due to visit the Silverlake.

“I wasn’t aware there was going to be a pitch inspection and if I’d known about it, I’d have been there,” said Hill.

“It was disappointing after we’d gone all the way down there and I feel they were a bit premature with the pitch inspection given that we were already in situ.

“From the players’ point of view, it wouldn’t have mattered if they’d left it until two o’clock.

“The lads were a bit grumpy yesterday because we’ve actually got a squad of players now who like playing football. And having got ourselves into a good position we’re keen to maintain it.”

Only the heavens will decide if seventh-placed Eastleigh face added disappointment tonight.

They are due to travel to Tonbridge Angels but, with more wet weather forecast, that too could be postponed.

“We’ve got ten games left in less than six weeks, but it is what it is and we can’t affect it,” said Hill.

“In many ways we were lucky to get so many matches played in February when you normally get snow and ice.”

Hill has a fully fit squad at his disposal now that frontman Craig McAllister is back from hamstring trouble.

Tonbridge sit 17th, just two points above the relegation zone. Ex-Eastleigh defender Gary Elphick is suspended tonight along with fellow centre-back Ollie Schulz. The Angels played on-loan Stevenage Borough defender Anthony Sinclair-Furlonge in central defence in their last game against Welling, while Gillingham loanee Ashley Miller featured out wide.
