Nigel Pearson has moved quickly to make Ian Pearce his first signing as Saints boss.
The experienced 33-year-old Fulham centre half joins on a one month loan and comes straight into contention for a place in the starting line-up at Scunthorpe tomorrow with Andrew Davies and Darren Powell both injury doubts for the game.
Pearson said: "I'm delighted to have brought Ian Pearce in on loan.
"He's an experienced head. Calm, confident and a quality player."
Pearce has featured in every Premier League season since it began in 1992 and has a top flight winner's medal form his spell at Blackburn.
He has also played for West Ham and Fulham after starting his career as a trainee at Chelsea.

I think I am correct in saying that he is the same age as Sol Campbell! When Pompey signed Campbell, the comments on these channels were all about 'signing old men'! With that in mind, I wonder how those critics view the age of this signing?

The Spirit of 1976 lives again! Didn't take long for that oft quoted football "played by England and Newcastle" to be abandoned. Just lump it up to the frontmen and see if they can barge their way towards the goal. Well, desperate times calls for desparate measures, if it works, I'll be sad, but I won't complain.

Does Sailor Sam not have anything better to do than comment on daily echo pages about a completely different team to the one he supports? It is quite sad. Maybe you have suffered years of grief for all the time that Saints were in the top division while you were nowhere in the lower leagues...or maybe you are still bitter that you still don't have a youth acedemy structure to compare with Saints whose is one of the best in the country with top class training facilities and a premiership quality stadium. Are you really just happy to have made it to the top by spending millions of pounds to compare with Chelsea...by a manager who just wants to keep making signings and picking up his dodgy %, and not interested in developing players. When Saints get back up...which we will...we will be a much better investment opportunity and will be able to sustain it for longer. You should enjoy being where you are for now because Leeds is where you're heading when it all falls apart.

Do you realise that it is nearly THREE DAYS (R)THREE DAYS since you last reminded everyone about how many times you had been to Wembley, and how you had conquered Europe! Don\'t forget to refresh our memories about how many times you have been to Wembley! I honestly cannot believe your claims, especially to see the cup final in 1976, because, even if you had been born there when the final was being played, that would make you nearly 32, which usually means you would now be an ADULT! But the childish nonsense that you put on here about \'Fook\', living in a caravan in Leigh Park etc gives a truer indication that you are a Juvenile, and a \'special needs\' one at that! So I am paying £100 per week to watch Campbell! That\'s news to me! If I were, I guess that, being a current England International, I would be getting better value for my money than watching a player who can\'t hold down a place at Fulham! Why did Campbell join Pompey? Like you, I DON\'T KNOW but, unlike you, I will not be putting some childish reason on here. Could it possibly be that he saw, with a competent, experienced manager, he would once more enjoy his football? I am not saying that is the reason, but seeing him perform for THE ONLY PREMIER LEAGUE CLUB ON THE SOUTH COAST, it would be a pretty good indication. So it\'s not rocket science! At the home of THE ONLY PREMIER LEAGUE CLUB ON THE SOUTH COAST, there is no call for rocket science or a rocket scientist! Pompey play their football on the grass! Having seen the recent expolits of our underpriviledged neighbours on television, I guess that they have a need there for a rocket scientist, as there seems to be an overwhelming desire to put the ball, instead of into the net, but INTO ORBIT! Maybe that is why when one football pundit, when asked to describe the Stains brand of football said that it was \'LIKE NOTHING ON EARTH\'! Oh! Lest I forget! DON\'T FORGET TO REMIND EVERYONE HOW MANY TIMES YOU HAVE BEEN TO WEMBLEY, AND THAT YOU WENT TO EUROPE. And he will be gone by the summer, guaranteed. Still l hear your owner is on the move. Was on the cards cards, and probably the reason pompey had to borrow £24million. Your in DEBT Sam, your money hes all gone. And when it goes, so will pompey. Oh and the reason why l have been away for three days is because l have been away working, not that its got **** all to do with you, sam. I hear that you are now that desperate for money, you are loaning ipswich town david nugent, but they have got to pay YOU a fee, priceless. Antway, must go l promised myself that l would watch the saints fa cup final 1976 on video. Oh those memories Sam,nighty nightprincey boy wrote:WELCOME BACK PRINCESS! I have been so worried about you! Do you realise that it is nearly THREE DAYS (R)THREE DAYS since you last reminded everyone about how many times you had been to Wembley, and how you had conquered Europe! Don\\\\\\\'t forget to refresh our memories about how many times you have been to Wembley! I honestly cannot believe your claims, especially to see the cup final in 1976, because, even if you had been born there when the final was being played, that would make you nearly 32, which usually means you would now be an ADULT! But the childish nonsense that you put on here about \\\\\\\'Fook\\\\\\\', living in a caravan in Leigh Park etc gives a truer indication that you are a Juvenile, and a \\\\\\\'special needs\\\\\\\' one at that! So I am paying £100 per week to watch Campbell! That\\\\\\\'s news to me! If I were, I guess that, being a current England International, I would be getting better value for my money than watching a player who can\\\\\\\'t hold down a place at Fulham! Why did Campbell join Pompey? Like you, I DON\\\\\\\'T KNOW but, unlike you, I will not be putting some childish reason on here. Could it possibly be that he saw, with a competent, experienced manager, he would once more enjoy his football? I am not saying that is the reason, but seeing him perform for THE ONLY PREMIER LEAGUE CLUB ON THE SOUTH COAST, it would be a pretty good indication. So it\\\\\\\'s not rocket science! Maybe that is why when one football pundit, when asked to describe the Stains brand of football said that it was \\\\\\\'LIKE NOTHING ON EARTH\\\\\\\'! Oh! Lest I forget! So it took Pearson just three days to realise that the defence needed some quality when it took Burley about 6 months to do nothing! Says it all really. All he needs to do now is get rid of Euell, Wright, Powell and Lundekvam an he'll become a legend at St Mary's Nigel Pearson's Red and White Army

I suppose Fulham were very unhappy that they do not have to pay his wages for a month! It will help pay Fayed's legal bills!sailor sam wrote: I think I am correct in saying that he is the same age as Sol Campbell! Not on a contract to earn lots of cash for himelf and his agent (not forgetting 'arrys 10%) Superb that Nasty Nige can get a player of this quality inside 4 days. Just shows how inept we were.

I am sorry that you, a foreigner, whose first language is not English, should find it necessary to use an expletive that had to be 'bleeped', but guess you did not know the correct word! With regard my spelling! I think that it is pretty good, and assume that GRAMMER is the american way of spelling GRAMMAR, which is the correct, English way!
