Sounds like another encouraging performance, I am looking forward to the Celtic game, it will be interesting to see how we play.

I saw that Racine lad play on Saturday at City and my mates and I were all impressed with him, a big lad with a good first touch and at one point made a surging run upfield and had a good shot on goal after playing a 1-2 with the left winger.

To find out he is only 16... you wouldn't know it from watching him play.

I watched University Challenge on Monday and it was a contest of boys against men and guess what the men won and no matter how I try to lift myself for the coming season I cannot see us doing anything other than struggling. Hanson was right when he said you don’t win anything with kids.

Young talented players get kicked to bits by the thugs who pass as footballers in this league and they get no protection from the carp referees either. Remember the play off against Derby? Bale and Jones kicked to bits. Where was Dyer last season? Injured having been kicked to bits. Real pressure needs to be put on referees this season to stop the thuggery.

If I was Jan I would do what Fergie, Wenger et al do and tell the players to surround opposition players who make brutal tackles and get the ref to do something about. If the ref. doesn't do anything about it then surround the ref. and make a bloody great fuss. Don't let the thugs and the poor refs get away with it. We as crowd can also chip in by letting the ref. and the thugs know of our disapproval. Our kids will need all the protection they can get in this league. Let us clean up this league as the FL don’t seem to be able to do it.

I have watched the game last night and the basingstoke game and the new formation and tactics look very exiting indeed. Great going forward with plenty of players getting into the box but it does leave us a bit lightweight for a counter attack. As for the previous comments about as only having kids in the team, what about rasik, k davies, sagonswki,perry, john, thomas. It`a people like the `optimistic` that do not give a chance to the new manager and players-maybe your pompey in disguse

I live an hour away and do many of my friends but we are making the effort for Klaus and a chance to see him (and LeTiss) play one last time on our beloved ground.
Those with principles, you should be ashamed as it will hurt Klaus, not Lowe. Your lack of support for this one night will leave him thinking that Southampton doesn't care for him and his loyal service.

You make no sense. I agree most fans would probably have liked to see somebody other than Lowe BUT he does have a track record as a shrewd buisinessman and knows how to run a club to make a proffit. Even if he does end up pocketing it.

Pundits continually blame the playoffs for the poor standard of the teams that the Championship produces. The FA seems to think that close physically challenging competitions represent entertaining, exiting football. This quite frankly is complete tosh.

Every week it seems that somehow referees are trying to even things out. In short if a player is quicker an d more skillful than an opponent then the less skillful player seems quite entitled to manhandle there opposition

In Saints first seasons in particular we where regularly kicked of the pitch and very rarely cards where given. If the same approach was taken in the Championships as was taken in the Premiership Saints would have run away with a some games against some woeful opposition.

In truth it seems like even last season Saints where dominant for large periods of games and we lost confidence/momentum because we where denied clear free kicks/pens only for second rate opposition to score a scrappy route 1 goal.

In particular I would like to see an assessment of how many free kicks are given in the middle third of the pitch. If a ref feels that a team is being particularly physical this is where he is happiest to give free kicks as there is less chance of a goal and his decision being scrutinised. The result of this is that a poor team can effetely slow a better team down without reprisals.

The net effect of this is; if you are a scrappy side that plays percentage football you get to be humiliated in the Premiership

Lots of buyers were linked with the club, none of which actually attempted to buy Lowe's shares. As his personal holding is relatively small, he could never prevent a takeover.

The only outfit that came anywhere near involvement was the SISU bid, which was a complicated arrangement of buying new shares at a discount, rather than taking over. All 3 major shareholders questioned the plan and SISU never followed it up.

If you are referring to the great, anticipated Fulthorpe consortium, they did not have the money to even buy out Lowe, let alone the whole club or actually invest anything.

To say that Lowe has turned them away is rubbish, and your theory regarding his 'mission' is laughable.

If a serious party wants to buy the club, they will. And Lowe/Wilde or any other individual will not be able to stop them.
Only the collective shareholders have the abilty to do that.

The only potential buyer that had any real money was SISU but they failed to give assurances of long term funding, as a result Lowe, Wilde and Crouch (yes, Crouch) rejected the bid. None of the other bids were turned away by Lowe, those bids failed because they were not credible bids.

Wrong. Lots of buyers were linked with the club, none of which actually attempted to buy Lowe's shares. As his personal holding is relatively small, he could never prevent a takeover. The only outfit that came anywhere near involvement was the SISU bid, which was a complicated arrangement of buying new shares at a discount, rather than taking over. All 3 major shareholders questioned the plan and SISU never followed it up. If you are referring to the great, anticipated Fulthorpe consortium, they did not have the money to even buy out Lowe, let alone the whole club or actually invest anything. To say that Lowe has turned them away is rubbish, and your theory regarding his 'mission' is laughable. If a serious party wants to buy the club, they will. And Lowe/Wilde or any other individual will not be able to stop them. Only the collective shareholders have the abilty to do that. Get real!

I would not be at all surprised if there was truth in the any off the number of interested parties that where named.

The truth is unless I was a fan in the club I wouldn’t bother to go into protracted talks about buying parts of a company that where the least profitable.

The most widely held rumour is that all potential suitors where put off when it became clear that Southampton Leisure holdings only wanted to sell Southampton Football Club Ltd. Not the half a dozen other related subsidiaries like including St Mary's SPV Ltd. St. Mary's Stadium Ltd, Stadium 2000 Ltd. Not to mention the other non associated assets like Dell Estates Ltd, Southampton Insurance Services Ltd, Southampton Mortgage & Financial Centre Ltd.

In short would you buy a house then pay a landlord rent for the ground on which it stood?

Ask yourself “do I really support Southampton Insurance Services?” and “what would happen if Dell Estates went into administration?”

And more importantly why have our season tickets funded the creation of these companies if they can’t be sold to further the club?

If they are not part of a deal to sell the club then Lowe (along with the other directors) has successfully creamed a fair old profit out of our investment in something we have an emotional attachment to.

The truth is like Nero, Lowe played the fiddle while Saints fans dreams burned.

I think you will find that many of the named subsidiaries above are shell companies or no longer trading. Most of the stadium linked ones were set up short term only and, having served their purpose, are no longer active or profitable.

In any event, there is only one plc. If the buyer wants to buy all of it, or part of it, Lowe cannot stop them. Any offer has to be put to the shareholders to decide.

You should learn to read saint stephen, and then you wouldn't get so stressed. I haven't made any claims to special status here, I have just pointed out that if supporters write to Rupert at the club, they will get a response - if, that is, the letter is not abusive and full of the sort of stupid claims you litter this website with.
As it happens, I emailed Rupert at the club with an enquiry this afternoon - and it didn't really matter who replied to the thing so long as I got the information I solicited - and he chose, not just to give me the information I wanted, but to comment on a remark I made about the game at Salisbury. Why would a secretary bother to do that? What would bne the point? Further, previous exchanges that have been delegated to others have lead with opening phrases such as "The Chairman has asked me to contact you with reference to ..." so why would a secretary wish to pass herself off as her boss all of a sudden?
In short, if you contacted Rupert, you get a reply if one is warrented. It might not be directly from him, if he feels someone else at St Mary's is better qualified to handle the corresponance, it might not tell you what you want to hear, but you get a reply.
You don't have to be important, just civil.
