SAINTS goalkeeper Michael Poke has joined Torquay United on a season-long loan.

The 22 year-old academy graduate has signed a one year contract extension to keep him at St Mary's until 2010.

But with the recent arrival of Tommy Forecast from Spurs pushing Poke further down the order Saints have agreed to loan him to the Conference side to give him first-team football.

Poke enjoyed a successful loan spell at Plainmoor last season, conceding just one goal in six games for the Devon side.

Saints will monitor Poke's progress at Torquay and the young stopper will come back to Saints' Staplewood training base one day a week to train with goalkeeping coach Malcolm Webster.

Meanwhile, former Saints loanee Adam Hammill has committed his future to Liverpool and immediately joined Blackpool on a six-month loan deal.

The 20 year-old Anfield academy graduate, who made 28 appearances while on-loan at St Mary's last season, will join up with the Championship side to gain further first-team experience.

Hammill has also signed a new three-year contract with Liverpool.

Their will be a familiar face in the Blackpool dressing room for Hammill in the shape of Jermaine Wright, who was released by Saints and joined The Tangerines on a one year deal earlier this month.

Why did they bother to extend his contract if he isn't going to be needed now Tommy Forcast has been signed, or are they expecting to sell Kelvin Davis.

Had Davis not been injured against Wolves last year Poke would never have played in the first place. I think he's a lower division player and Torquay is a good move for him. It's clear that the new management like the new goalkeeper and I Forecast he'll be playing in the first team soon.
