JACK Cork joined Saints on loan with glowing references that even called him the new Alan Hansen.' The 19-year-old who can play at centre half, right back or in central midfield has moved to St Mary's on loan from Chelsea until December 31.

Cork, son of former Wimbledon footballer Alan Cork, will bolster a Saints squad depleted by the departure of Andrew Davies.

Jan Poortvliet was delighted with his new recruit and revealed he had heard great things about the England youth international from a variety of sources.

He said: "I think Jack is a good player.

"All the information about him is good coming out from Chelsea, our own players, Scunthorpe where he was player of the year, and that is all good news.

Let's hope that Jack doesn't "bottle" it when he plays. We've got enough "Champagne" charlies in the squad. Last think we need is a player who will "wine" behind the scenes.

If the Echo now don't employ me as their headline writer, I'm also available for panto.

I'm too young to remember hansen as a player but he is a prat in the commentary box!

Good luck this new lad, hope he does well for us.

3-points tomorrow please!

All you need to know about Alan Hansen as a player is his ability to foul players all game long and get away with it. FA Cup Semi Final at White Hart Lane springs to mind.

But if anyone ever meets him, just ask him how Danny Wallace managed to outjump him to score with a header at the Dell in 1984.

Shankly and Paisley saw something in Hansen to bring him from Partick Thistle!!!!
And they were proved correct in their judgement!!
If this lad turns out to be half the player Hansen was, then he will do well!!

One of our players has always been a hero for me. First it was Ron Davies then Mike Channon followed by Steve Mills and then Steve Williams, In the nineties it was Le Tissier and more recently Gareth Bale and now Andrew Surman. So can someone please explain to me why it is that on this site for some people their hero is not a player but the obnoxious Rupert Lowe. I find this very strange as football club chairmen are nearly always universally loathed. Is love of Rupert a quirky sexual fetish or some other deviant behaviour? I can only assume that such people are not football fans but are excited by bead counting and book keeping. They must all be bank employees or dull accountants or heaven forbid chums of Rupert from the PR Company he employs. Personally I fall in with the majority and loathe him.

Dear Mr Barnacle Bill

Why, on the first article for years that no one has mentioned Rupert Lowe, do you need to attack the people that, on this case, were not defending him?

Is that because he shops at Morrissons?

I dont think he will bottle it - at least with cork he has experience in the CCC

35 games at Scunthorpe makes him more experienced in the CCC than Killer.

Does anyone know what position he played at Scunny?

If he's being likened to Alan Hansen, then I guess it's because of his ability to play as a centre back, not full back or midfield, which means we'll probably play him at full back where he'll possibly be likened to Helle Hansen.

For the inbreds on here, the comment about Helle Hansen WAS A JOKE. I typed that bit slowly for you!!

Joking aside, I wish him well and hope he helps shore up the defence.

Someone asked yesterday, why he was only here till January & not all season. Could it be wages? Can't imagine that an England U19 captain at super rich Chelsea is earning less than some of our higher earners.
Are SFC picking up all his wages or are CFC baling us out on that?

Hay you bums, dont try to blow him away. Saw Cork at Bournemouth, he is brilliant, and would walk into team if Terry was not there. He is first class, and can play anywhere. A great signing

He will be playing for Barnet within 3 years

Sounds like a player of some potential. Am not sure about the references above to Alan Hansen being a kicker though.. In a time where the game was extremely physical, he was a class apart from every other centre back around. Not only was he physically dominant, but he could play too and was perhaps the best exponent of a centre back coming out of defence and linking up with midfield that there's ever been in the domestic game.

If Cork is even half as good as Hansen was, we'd have made a good signing.

Chelsea, Scunthorpe & Bournemouth fans rate him & having played for England under 19's & having had Championship experience, I think he will do well for us. Cork can play in the back four or just in front with either Gillet or Schneiderlin, which is waht we need. Shame it's not a season long loan though.

According to the papers Anthony Puls Jr is having a medical with us. He's 24 & has had very little experience, we do not need him! We'd be better off getting 200-300k & trying to get someone like Phil Ifil from Colchester.

Pray we get 3 points 2moro. COYR!

Thats great in principle, but their is a fine balance between nuturing our young players and staying in the championship. Who do you think we should use instead of Cork then? Racine? Lancashire?

Some fans just want to complain no matter what.

If we don't bag 3 points tommorrow Derby are gonna have a few less seats in there ground as I anticipate the Saints fans to rip them out and hurl them at the Derby fans and at the team... This could continue at St Marys on Tuesday night with Phillips being the target this time after his Goal against us last week still burning in the Saints fans memory!!!

Jack Cork I am told by a Chelsea insider is a heavy drinker who likes to go on the razz with younger Chelsea squad members and get them into trouble, so he was shipped on loan out the last 3 seasons to try and stamp this de-stablising behaviour out, so expect a few more hangovers on the pitch on Saturday if he trys the same here with our young lot it could be a recipe for disaster!!, he also likes to gamble alot with poker being another one of his major vices as his salary is much more than many other youngesters in his position due to the Chelsea 'Abramovich' factor.

I just hope Jan knows what he is doing bringing this maverick into our squad and unsettling our players, only time will tell.

Jan probably had never heard of hiom just like me and thousands of others im sure!
Somebody probably contacted Lowe and said could you take this kid he shows a lot of promise but is a bit of a scoundrel so we will pay his wages & you try and straighten him out and what did Rupes say?
"Luvely Jubbly and it dont cost me a penny! Michael my son we going to be millionaires"!
