SOUTHAMPTON and Portsmouth's rivalry will be renewed when boxer Lewie 'The Saint' Edmondson fights Joel McIntyre at the Cardiff Arena.

The pair will be fighting on the undercard of Lauren Price's world title bout against Jessica McCaskill on Saturday, May 11.

Edmondson wore a Saints shirt at the press conference this week and he will be looking to beat Pompey fan McIntyre to put him on a path to his own world title shot.

"I never want to lose in the ring, let alone to a Pompey man," Edmondson told BBC Sport.

"I believe I should be coming through these fights in good style. I’m ready to put on a career-best performance, trust me it’s incoming.

"It will definitely have that added edge with where we're both from. We’ll put on a good performance and there will be a win by stoppage, it will be violent."

The 28 year old was last in action back in December when he beat Dmytro Fedas on the undercard of Chris Billam-Smith's fight with Mateusz Masternak.

McIntyre, who has lost his last four bouts, will be a heavy underdog. Edmondson is not looking past McIntyre but did acknowledge he wants to have three fights this year.

He added: "I’m ready for some big nights and after this, I’d like to be in some form of a title fight, I’m ready to push on."

A victory could put the Southampton man in the frame to face another British Light-Heavyweight in Ben Whittaker.
