Winchester sports awards launched

THE Winchester District Sport and Physical Activity Alliance (SPAA) has launched its first annual sports awards for the Winchester District.

Nominations are being invited from local sports clubs and organisations.

The awards - sponsored by Wild Sports - will be presented at the Guildhall on Tuesday December 9, aimed at publicly recognising the commitment and excellence of coaches, volunteers and sportspeople across the Winchester District.

Nominations for awards will be considered inseveral categories: Junior Sportsman & Junior Sportswoman under 18 years of age; Senior Sportsman & Senior Sportswoman; Masters Sportsman & Masters Sportswoman (40 years of age or over); Junior Disability Sportsman & Sportswoman Under 18 years of age; Senior Disability Sportsman & Sportswoman 18 years or over; Coach of the year (Male or Female); Volunteer of the Year (Junior & Senior); Team (Junior & Senior); Official (Male or Female); Service to Sport (Male or Female) Awards will be for achievements during the sporting year of 2008 with the exception of Service to Sport, which will be for service, coaching, officiating or volunteering over several years.

All nominees must be resident within the boundaries of the Winchester District and all entries must be supported by a written statement of no more than 200 words to support the nomination.

Closing date for entries is Friday October 24, 2008.
