Rickie Lambert has called on his Saints teammates to finish what they’ve started after getting themselves to the brink of automatic promotion.

Victory over Hartlepool means that two wins from their final three games will almost certainly be enough to guarantee Saints a place in the Championship next season.

Lambert got his 19th league goal of the season as he converted a penalty against Hartlepool.

Despite not hitting the heights of last term’s 37-goal campaign, only three men have scored more League One goals than Lambert in 2010/11 – Craig Mackail-Smith, Glenn Murray and ex-Saint Bradley Wright-Phillips.

Now the Saints top scorer is already thinking ahead to Brentford this Saturday where the club can move another step closer to promotion.

He said: “There is pressure.“There is a lot of expectation on us this season to go back up.

“We’ve done terrific to get into this position and we’ve got to finish it off now.”
