AFC Totton blew Chipping Norton Town away with the quality of their attacking play as they marched through to the FA Vase second round.
Yet it was a defender, the towering Ross Bottomley, who edged manager Stuart Ritchie's vote for man-of-the-match after a convincing 4-0 win.
Until midway through last season, Bottomley was a striker - and a very promising one, at that - with Hamble ASSC.
But when the Planemakers needed bolstering in defence, they successfully converted him from centre-forward to centre-half.
When he arrived at Totton in the summer, the big man was still a raw talent, but slowly and surely Ritchie is smoothing the rough edges away.
"For the last four games Ross has been very good," said Ritchie. "He's learning more about playing in that position now.
"We've been telling him how to improve and he's taken it all on board.
"He was vocal today and that's something we've been trying to get into his game."
