No pushovers in pool pairs knockout
8:10am Saturday 5th January 2013 in Hampshire Sport
PETE Munday’s signature catchphrase “happy days” signalled the end of another successful night on the pool table.
But despite the scorelines, Munday and his Riverside Club teammate Richard Staines found their opponents no pushovers in the first two rounds of the pairs knockout. Riverside’s customary travelling support saw the 2009 champions book a last-four spot in the Andy Brooke Cup by seeing off Jack Jewell and Kevin Ridout 3-0 and Richard Barge and Richard Misselbrook 3-1 in the double header at Bitterne Royal British Legion.
“We didn’t play too well but sometimes you need a little bit of luck,” said Munday. “Once we got going, we got into a bit of a rhythm. “We’re in the semi-finals now so happy days. “We just come out to have a bit of fun. If we win something, it’s a bonus.”
But he added: “(Staines) doesn’t like losing; I don’t like losing. So we want to win.”
