DSL Previews: Upwey set sights on Trophy

THE Dorset Senior Trophy represents Upwey & Broadwey’s only realistic chance of silverware this season and Steve Reynolds wants his men to go all out for the title.

The adverse weather throughout December caused the Weymouth outfit’s third round tie at Okeford United to be postponed on three separate occasions but looking at this weekend’s forecast it should finally get the go ahead tomorrow (1.30pm).

Reynolds told Echosport: “Tomorrow will be the fourth attempt of trying to get this game played.

“The next round is scheduled for the following Saturday so what will happen if we draw and go to a replay I do not know.

“The Trophy is our best chance of winning some silverware this season so we are looking to have a good run in it.

“We certainly started the year well with a 7-1 win over Piddletrenthide in the league so hopefully we can keep that form going and claim a place in the next round.

“If we show the same hunger as we did last weekend then we will stand every chance.”

With Adam Anstey and Sean Zima both back with Weymouth Reserves this week, Phil Anderson is expected to return to Upwey’s starting XI tomorrow while Pete Jarvis is likely to be included on the bench after being unavailable last time out.

Struggling Weymouth Sports face a daunting trip to Witchampton United in the Dorset Senior League (2pm).

The Cranford Avenue outfit currently sit third-bottom, having collected just one point from their last five outings, while the Witches sit third on a six-game winning streak.

Commenting on the task ahead, Sports’ joint-boss Chris Hicks said: “With Witchampton, Kingston Lacy and Mere Town our next three games we know it is going to be tough so it is important we rise to the challenge.

“All we can do is dig in and work hard to earn that little bit of luck that can help turn things around.

“We should have a similar squad but we may switch things around a bit to try and freshen things up.

“We are also looking to get one or two new faces in but at this time of year that is never easy.”

Portland United Reserves are also in need of a change of fortunes in the division.

The reigning champions have picked up just one point from a possible 18 in recent times and will be desperate to buck that trend tomorrow at Blandford United Reserves (2pm).
