Barry misses out on British record off Needles
8:48am Thursday 24th January 2013 in Hampshire Sport
Barry Knight with the massive undulate ray
A superb undulate ray of 24lb 8oz has beaten the best British weight.
But Barry Knight, who caught it off The Needles, won’t be able to claim the record.
Present restrictions on landing such a type of ray meant the fish was weighed, photographed and returned alive from the Lymington boat Private Venture, skippered by Art Savage.
But it is stipulated that any fish has to be weighed on dry land to claim a record. However, the British Record Fish Committee have recently launched a ‘notable fish caught and weighed at sea’ list.
So, if the undulate is accepted, Knight will still receive a rather nice certificate.
