Morley stars as Terras hit back to thwart Wareham

LEVELLER: Matt Morley, left
Weymouth Reserves 2 Wareham Rangers 1
MATT Morley was the standout performer for Weymouth Reserves as they secured a 2-1 victory over Wareham Rangers at the Bob Lucas Stadium.
Steve Yates put the visitors in front on 24 minutes but the Terras always looked the better side and eventually turned it around after the break to the delight of Jake Richmond.
The Weymouth joint-boss told Echosport: “We fully deserved it. We were on top for most of the game and they hardly troubled us except for the goal, which could have been avoided, and may even have been offside.
“We were pretty much on the offensive throughout and absolutely battered them in the second half.
“We got two goals and my only criticism is that we didn’t go on and make it more.
“For all our dominance we didn’t really make their keeper work enough but after six weeks without a game it was nice to pick up the three points.
“In fact, had it not been for the tremendous efforts of Kev and Simon, our groundsmen, this match would not have gone ahead either, so a huge thank you goes to them for all their hard work – it was very much appreciated.”
Yates’ opener came against the run of play and the Terras were unfortunate not to get back on level terms before the break after Morley had struck the crossbar and Lee Sharpe had seen a header ruled out for offside.
The visitors were clearly riding their luck and just three minutes into the second half it finally ran out when Morley beat three players, cut inside and curled home a wonderful shot from 15 yards to finally pull his side back level.
Now it was all Weymouth and just after the hour they found the target again. This time first-team star Ashley Wells robbed an opponent before racing through and finding the net at the second attempt following a decent save.
The Terras should have gone on and put the game to bed from there but Wareham stuck at it and did apply some pressure in the closing minutes, only to go away empty handed.
Richmond added: “I thought Matt Morley was outstanding. He ripped them to shreds and the fact he is now delivering high quality performances on a more consistent basis is great to see.
“Luke Winsper had a fine game too and it was also good to have Matt Groves in the side, particularly from an organisation point of view.
“Matt is a bit short of match fitness at the moment but being first-team assistant-manager, he is obviously a great talker out there and the lads can learn a lot from him.”
The Terras have now won seven out of their last nine in the Magna Dorset Premier League where they currently sit ninth.
Terras: Cottingham, Sharpe, Doidge, Beals, Wells, Morley (Crouch 80), Groves, Winsper, Zima, Clarke, Hind (Bell 55). Subs not used: Sanchez-Baker, Harvey.
