Dorchester Town beaten at high-flying Welling
Welling United 3 Magpies 2
DORCHESTER Town pushed title-chasing Welling close but ended this afternoon's Blue Square Bet South encounter with nothing tangible to show for their efforts.
The victory for Welling gave them an 11th win in a row to break the league record which they had equalled in their previous outing.
Fraser Franks got their first on six minutes only for Ashley Nicholls to level for the visitors midway through the first half.
Welling regained the lead through Joe Healy soon after the break but the Magpies got a deserved equaliser on 75 minutes when Charlie Clough headed in Neil Martin's cross.
But just a few minutes later, home striker Ross Lafayette pounced to make it 3-2 and earn Welling all three points.
It may well have been different, though, had the Magpies been awarded a first half penalty when Ben Watson appeared to be felled in the box.
However, boss Phil Simkin and his men can now turn their attention to the visit of Basingstoke to the Avenue on Tuesday night (7.45pm).
