Win gives Hartley Wintney hope of great escape

HARTLEY Wintney's hopes of making a great escape from the basement of the Combined Counties League Premier Division were given a great boost as they won 3-1 at Ash United on Tuesday night.

It was the village side’s first double of the season and the visitors dominated the game, opening the scoring through Jason Graham and then Ryan Stephens had a couple of great chances before Ash equalised with a penalty.

After the break, Stephens made up for his misses as he scored from Craig Barker and then netted a third with an overhead kick from a Sam Nicholls free-kick.

Manager Ben Dillon said: “We deserved the win and the victory is great for the team and we will look to do the same at Dorking on Saturday.”

Their Surrey rivals are also in the relegation zone and a victory would cut the gap between the sides to four points – and Hartley have three games in hand.

On Tuesday night, the village side are on their travels again at mid-table South Park.
