BASINGSTOKE footballer Scott Rendell’s exceptional FA Cup run with Luton came to an end on Saturday as the non-leaguers were beaten 3-0 by Millwall in the fifth round of the competition.

The former Harriet Costello School pupil was the hero in the previous round, coming off the bench to score the only goal of the game and earn his side an incredible victory over Premier League Norwich.

He was rewarded with a place in the starting line-up on Saturday lunchtime but the 26-year-old was unable to repeat the trick as Luton were knocked out.

Andre Gray and Arnaud Mendy forced early saves out of Millwall goalkeeper David Forde but it was the visitors who took the lead, former Reading man James Henry making the most of a defensive mix-up to open the scoring.

Rob Hulse doubled the lead with a rather fortuitous goal before half-time and while Gray forced Forde into another decent stop after the break, Millwall wrapped up the win through Dany N’Guessan late on.

Luton went close to grabbing a goal when Jon Shaw saw his injury-time effort cleared off of the line – but they were left with nothing to show for their efforts.
