TADLEY Calleva bounced back from a disappointing defeat to hold Wessex League Division One high-flyers Brockenhurst to a goal-less draw at Barlows Park on Saturday.

Danny Vickers had the first real chance for Tadley after 15 minutes but he failed to make the most of a one-on-one opportunity and the visitors, who sit second in the table, had a fantastic opportunity soon after, missing a penalty.

Vickers had another one-on-one chance early in the second-half but shot wide, while Brett Denham went close in the final minutes, seeing a well-struck shot fly narrowly past the post.

Manager Danny Dolan said: “It’s a massive result for us. I asked for a response after a disappointing defeat to Pewsey Vale and that was what I got against a side who could go on and win the league.

“It’s an excellent point for us at the end of a competitive game and it means we are unbeaten at home since November, which is great.”

Next up for Dolan’s men is a tough-looking trip to fifth-placed Petersfield on Saturday, while they host Stockbridge on Tuesday night.

“We will go to Petersfield looking not to get beaten,” the Tadley boss added. “They are a good side and it’s going to be difficult but we have shown that we can compete against the top sides.”
