Stalemate in top of the table clash
12:00pm Tuesday 5th March 2013 in Hampshire Sport By Peter Raynbird
BASINGSTOKE Royals and Welly Old Boys drew 1-1 in the Basingstoke and District League Premier Division on Saturday, leaders Royals dropping points for only the second time this season.
Welly were on top in the first-half and took a 10th minute lead when Ben Nicholls scored from a penalty.
Steve Harvey forced a fingertip save from the Welly goalkeeper before the break and they levelled in the second-half. Tom Smith forced a fine save and the resulting corner led to Nick Willcock’s header being fumbled over the line.
Dale Bristow and Nicholls had chances to win the game for Welly, but Royals held on.
Kingsclere beat Poison 4-2 in the only other Premier Division game. See The Monday Gazette, on sale now, for all of the action from Saturday's games.
