Jason Bristow hails his Town 'heroes'

JASON Bristow hailed his Basingstoke Town team as “heroes” after a fantastic performance earned them three points away at high-flying Salisbury City on Tuesday night.

Goals from Simon Dunn and Delano Sam-Yorke secured an unexpected 2-0 win against a Salisbury side second in the Blue Square Bet South and unbeaten at home all season.

Bristow said: “I think that is our biggest win of the season. Coming here, we had only won two away from home, while they were unbeaten, so it’s a massive win.”

It was a gritty, battling performance from the visitors, who defended stoutly against mounting Salisbury pressure to record just their third clean sheet of the season despite being without both of their first-choice centre-backs.

“Our performance was excellent,” Bristow added. “We had 11 heroes out there. “We were defending for most of the second-half but we threw our bodies in front of things. It was a great, battling team performance and we defended well as a team, with everyone putting a real shift in.”

The visitors were also clinical in front of goal, converting both of their clear chances.

“The first goal was a really good team goal and the second was an excellent individual goal from Delano Sam-Yorke,” Bristow added. “So far this season, we have been creating chances but not taking them so it was good to see us create less but still score.”
