Hartley Wintney on the slide

HARTLEY Wintney saw their chances of avoiding the drop dealt a blow as they slipped to two defeats in the space of a week.

They were forced to play for almost an hour with 10 men against Farnham Town last Saturday after Joe Harris was sent off for two bookable offences.

Despite Hartley levelling the scores and producing a battling second-half performance, Farnham took advantage of their extra man to score twice late on and snatch all three points.

Manager Ben Dillon said: “We had all the possession but one moment of stupidity has cost us the game. We were unlucky not to get a point with 10 men on the field, but with 11 I think we could well have won it.

“We have had a tough week, but if we show the same kind of fight and determination as we did against Farnham we have every reason to think we can get something from the game.”

Another defeat followed on Tuesday night, Dillon’s men going down 2-1 at the hands of Raynes Park Vale, a result that leaves them in the Combined Counties Premier bottom three.

Things to do not get any easier for Dillon’s men, who now face three of the division’s top six. First up is a trip to South Park tonight, before a journey to title-chasing Epsom & Ewell on Saturday, while leaders Egham will be Hartley’s visitors next Tuesday.
