WEYLINE have shocked the Weymouth Sunday League by withdrawing from the Premiership with less than two months of the season remaining.

The 2012 league and cup double winners made the decision to pull out after being forced to forfeit their latest game against Britannia.

Availability and funding issues appear to have sounded the death knell and the Dorset County FA has already stepped in to ensure all outstanding monies owed by players are repaid to the club in full.

Those that fail to cough up will receive bans from all football in the county until they do.

The news was confirmed when the club posted the following message on Facebook: “To confirm – Weyline FC are no more! DCFA have been contacted with a list of all players who owe monies to Weyline FC (totalling £761). Bans will be in effect from Monday, March 11 until all monies are paid to Weyline FC secretary Rob Pavey.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank all players that have worn the green and white, and shared in some good times whilst winning the Weymouth Premiership, Les Hallett and DCFA Sunday Intermediate Cups in the space of two seasons.”

The withdrawal has left the top flight with just five clubs – a disappointing outcome to a season that has been hugely disrupted by the weather.

A league statement also released this week reads: “With immediate effect (5pm Monday, March 11, 2013), Weyline FC have withdrawn from the Weymouth Sunday Football League. All previous results will stand and all remaining fixtures will be entered as 5-0 walkovers.

“Their place in the League Cup will be taken by The Lounge, who were originally given a bye.”

Back to matters on the pitch and there was also disappointment for the Premiership’s current top two in the Dorset Sunday Intermediate Cup semi-finals.

Rendezvous went down 4-0 against KC Transport while table-toppers Rodwell lost 4-1 at Specialist Lettings after extra-time.

The only league game to take place in the Premiership saw Market House beat basement boys Alexandra 5-0.

Down in the Championship, Dolphin moved a step closer to claiming the title following a 7-2 victory over Sailors Return.

Matt Williams led the way for the table-toppers with a fine hat-trick while their other goals came from Sheon McBride (2), Mark Cheater and Ross Jones, who netted a 25-yard screamer.

Dolphin now sit 10 points clear at the summit after second-placed Portland Town suffered a shock 5-3 home defeat against basement boys Broadmayne.

The islanders still hold two games in hand but will surely need to win all six of their remaining fixtures to stand any chance of leapfrogging the current leaders.

Elsewhere, Belvedere hammered George Jewels 8-1, The Lounge beat Moby Dick’s 4-2 and Dolce Vita overcame Weymouth Athletic 5-3.
