Overton rue missed chances
12:00pm Friday 15th March 2013 in Hampshire Sport
OVERTON manager Titch Bloomfield was again left ruing his side’s inability to convert their chances as they slipped to a disappointing home defeat against lowly Bournemouth Sports in the Hampshire Premier League.
Alex Jupp scored in the first-half to give Bloomfield’s side the lead, but Bourne-mouth levelled just after the break – and just as they did in their 1-1 draw with high-flying Liss, Overton squandered numerous chances to win the game.
Bournemouth then scored a controversial penalty 15 minutes from time to take all three points back to Dorset and leave Bloomfield scratching his head at how his team came away empty-handed.
He said: “It is the same old story. Myles Englefield hit the bar and just like the Liss game we’ve created plenty of other opportunities, but for the second week running we have failed to convert them and then conceded a late penalty.
“There were a few players who didn’t perform and we weren’t clinical enough in front of goal but even still I didn’t think we deserved to lose the game. A draw would probably have been a fair result.”
Overton will be looking to get back on track when they travel to third-bottom Otterbourne on Saturday, although Bloomfield has warned his side not to expect an easy ride.
He said: “We beat them 4-1 at our place and of course we will be looking to go there and get the three points, but they won their last game so they will be high on confidence and it won’t be an easy game.”
