AFC Aldermaston maintained their impressive unbeaten run with a narrow win over Hampshire Premier League strugglers QK Southampton last Wednesday.

Matt Wilkes scored after 25 minutes to give Terry Rooney’s side the lead, but the visitors levelled 10 minutes after the break. However, Aldermaston’s Dexter Skipp grabbed what proved to be a decisive goal from close range midway through the second-half to hand Rooney’s men all three points and keep them in eighth place.

It made it two wins on the bounce for Aldermaston against teams from the bottom four following their 7-2 win over basement boys Hamble.

They were denied the opportunity to make it three in a row on Saturday as their fixture against Paulsgrove was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

Rooney said: “I was disappointed not to have played to be honest because we are doing so well at the moment and I desperately wanted to keep the momentum going.

“People may have looked at where QK Southampton were in the table and expected us to get a result, but I think their league position belies their quality.

“They played some decent football but in the end we fully deserved the win. I was delighted with the three points and the fact we kept our proud unbeaten run going.”

Aldermaston were in action against Fleetlands last night and face a tough trip to league leaders Locks Heath on Saturday, a side that have lost just once this season and sit 17 points clear at the top.

Rooney’s side then complete a busy schedule when they face Paulsgrove in the re-scheduled game next Wednesday.
