POOLE BOROUGH 3 BRIDPORT RESERVES 0

BRIDPORT Reserves’ boss Mike Savage focused on the positives after his side’s four-match unbeaten run was ended by Dorset Premier League heavyweights Poole Borough.

Savage labelled the first half performance as “the best we’ve played all season” and remarked that his players more than matched the league leaders for the first hour.

Ben Clarke spurned three opportunities in the opening period to get on the score sheet, while Jamie McClem-ents also shot wide when well placed.

Poole, who are four points clear of Hamworthy Recrea-tion, converted their only meaningful chance of the first half after 25 minutes and defied the visitors’ onslaught to lead at the break.

The home side’s second goal came on the hour courtesy of a free-flowing move, before Harry Fleet handballed with 15 minutes remaining to allow a third from the penalty spot.

Despite the result, Savage was full of acclaim for how his troops conducted themselves against an established outfit.

He said: “The scoreline didn’t accurately reflect the balance of play, we deserved at least a point for dominating the first hour of the match.

“Maybe Poole thought we would just roll over but we proved that we’re an improving side and certainly gave them plenty to think about.”

Bridport Reserves host Holt United tomorrow night (7.45pm) at St Mary’s Field in their next league fixture.
