Lock leads Senior bid

SKIPPER Darren Lock returns to lead out Bridport in their Dorset Senior Cup quarter-final tie at Blue Square South neighbours Dorchester Town tonight (7.45pm).

Neither talisman Lock nor experienced midfielder Russell Legg played any part in the Toolstation Western League Division One defeat against Oldland Abbotonians on Saturday due to suspension.

But both have served their respective bans and will reclaim their spots in boss Ian Hutchinson's side.

For an upset to materialise the Bees, who hope to mobilise a substantial visiting support, must not only confound the form book but also rediscover their scoring boots.

The forward triumvirate of Shane Evans, Ashley Clarke and Jamie Morgan are woefully off-colour and cannot afford to spurn any chance that might arise.

Such occasions on a bigger stage are rare for clubs like Bridport, so Hutchinson is urging his players to savour the atmosphere at the Jewson Stadium.

And he insists the wider playing surface allied to a Dorchester outfit expected to be without several rested key names could play into the underdogs’ hands.

Hutchinson said: “It’s a massive test for us but the boys should be striving to play at these types of grounds against better sides.

“I said to them in the FA Cup match at Clevedon Town that these are the games you look back on.

“On a bigger, wider pitch you never know what could happen – we like to play football and we may be able to do so more than in a league match.

“Dorchester might rest a few of their regulars, but we need to make sure we focus on us and play our usual game.

“Any chances we get we need to put away, unlike against Oldland Abbotonians, and as long as the players each give 110 per cent there is nothing more I can ask.”

Bees: (from) Cleal, Hayter, Herbst, Lock, Forbes, C Clarke, Condliffe, Mason, Legg, Wise, Hutchinson, Evans, A Clarke, Morgan.
