Two months ago he was the subject of million pound speculation after netting the winner in Leeds’ sensational FA Cup third round victory at Old Trafford.
For many Saints fans, the visit of second placed Leeds to St Mary’s this weekend will be their first sighting of Beckford in the flesh.
Unlike when Lambert has gone up against another of League One’s hotshots, Grant Holt of Norwich, there is a massive difference in their game.
Beckford is all about all pace and playing on the shoulder of the last defender.
Lambert, like Holt, is a target man who scores goals but offers a lot more in terms of his all round performance.
It is because of that pace that Beckford has attracted the attentions of top flight clubs.
But Saints will be quite happy that Lambert has not courted such publicity or attention from elsewhere, despite an equally impressive record – and arguably a more rounded game.
A quick look at their stats this season underlines the differences in their games and the one major similarity.
That similarity is that they are both prolific scorers, having each netted 27 times in all competitions already this season.
Beckford, who scored twice on Tuesday in Leeds’ 4-1 romp at Tranmere, has made 41 starts in all competitions – four less than Lambert.
But the other statistics gathered by the Daily Echo shows an interesting difference.
Firstly, Lambert’s value to the team as a fulcrum for the attack is underlined by the fact he has provided 17 assists for others to score.
That compares very favourably to Beckford, who has just six assists.
Beckford has also taken a lot more shots for his goals – having had 91 shots on target and 73 off target compared to Lambert’s 72 and 64 respectively.
For full story and more Saints news, don't miss today's Daily Echo.

Sadly there will also be decisions to make about the injury prone. I'd love Murty and Connoly to to get fully fit but in all honesty I doubt that will happen. So there will be pressure on Pards to make tough decisions on who to keep.
After Leeds 4-1 win at the ground we lost at 3 days earlier, I think were getting a little bit over confident. One things for sure, the quality will be well above League 1 standard and im looking forward to it. Regarding Lambo, I'm a bit concerned of the attention he'll be getting in the summer.

Apparently Leeds didn't need any excuses at Tranmere , like, rubbish ref, poor pitch, missed chances blah blah blah.
Unlike AP I am gutted that we won’t make the playoffs. The reason, we will now face speculation about some of our best players. I am worried we might not be able to avoid having to sell. Lets face it, if a player wants to leave, what choice do you have, none. This could and probably will delay the so called 5 year plan. This could break up the team and we will be back to square one.
Another season in this rubbish league, its div 3 for pities sake, playing on mud at the likes of Yeovil, Hartlepool, and probably Rochadale and Bournemouth, doesn't appeal to me. Even with the ten point disadvantage, you can look at recent games and see that we have thrown away opportunities to make up points on the top six. I would take 6 points in exchange for the Tin Pot Cup. Playing at Wembley has been devalued. It’s no longer the once in a lifetime experience it used to be. ££££s mean more than the occasion now. You can get to the FA Cup semi final and play at Wembley. The magic of playing at the national stadium was all about the tradition and history of the competition, that’s now disappeared for ever in exchange for £££££££.
I still cling on to the hope that we can scrape into the top six, two home games coming up, we have to get six points. Lets hope the JPT isn’t a distraction and we can push on up the league, not going up this season could have far reaching implications. COYR

anyway...back to footy ! before the hudds game i predicted a tight 3-2 victory, got the amount of goals right, just not to the right teams. on this basis,i'm going to predict the same again.... oh,and must remember to wear the hat (wasn't wearing it for the last game). COYR !!!

My response to Lord (P)rick's earlier comment - never took the quote mark I guess. I was in Christchurch in the 80s when the pride of Leeds descended on Bournemouth and kicked in anything that wasnt nailed down and assualted girls sunbathing on the beaches. They are a class act.

As for who`s the best ..well i reckon both could do a good job in the championship but the premierleague is stratosphere`s above everthing else which shows why players like Ebanks Blake and Jason Scotland who scored for fun in the championship cant score for love nor money in the premier league.
Quality, I keep hearing about how poor Beckford was at Elland Road, how many did Lambert get that day ? Or more to the point how many did the entire Saints 1st team get that day ? They are both quality strikers and both at the head of the scoring charts by rights. These days football is all about pace which is why the higher league teams are interested in Beckford.
