Southampton FC have missed David Connolly says Alan Pardew

Alan Pardew has welcomed back the returning David Connolly insisting: We’ve really missed you.

The striker is set to make a welcome return to the Saints squad for tomorrow’s highly anticipated clash with Leeds in front of a 30,000 plus crowd at St Mary’s.

The Saints striker has not played in 2010 due to a groin injury but is set to return to the bench for the visit of Simon Grayson’s second placed team.

Since Lee Barnard has found form, Saints have had two prolific strikers.

But before that there is no doubt Connolly’s absence hampered the team’s progress, something which his boss, Alan Pardew, recognises.

Pardew said: “It’s simple – he’s got class.

“If you’re a Southampton fan the one thing I always associated with this club was class players.

“We’ve got class players in the team but it’s nice to have another one.

“He can produce a goal out of nothing, he can get a simple goal, he can get an ugly goal.

“We’ve missed him."

Its just been announced that the Football League chairman, Mawhinney is standing down quote "He made himself unpopular with fans of some clubs by imposing points deductions on teams in administration"

Does this mean that his replacement will adopt a different policy (ex Leicester chairman) thus when Portsmouth are in the championship next season, they will be treated preferentially ... ... ... again.

James may make the bench but
The options in the squad now are amazing for us.

Pards said a week ago he's happy with the line up. When asked about rests and whether Rickie and Radhi etc are up for it physically he was pretty emphatic Yes they are! no doubt at all they want to play.

They gelled well in the last couple of months. The only box not ticked is the physical side on dirt tracks. Leeds have slipped on the really bad tracks but have proven more consistent and ruthless.

Have we improved since 19th Dec.. you bet we have... look out Leeds The Saints are going to prove it

4-2 Saints and that's allowing for a dodgy pen for them. Beckford to get closed down and subbed off after 65mins (in a hissy) he is not team player like our any of our front four.

PS: What is the first thing Davie will do when he's subbed on? haha yep you know it. Good innit.

The new stadium could be the 'Wow Factor' that the city of Southampton has been waiting for. How about Stoneham, there's plenty of space there, even more when Ford's is flattened, and nearly everyone who drives past or into the city would see it. We could keep St Mary's as our training ground, just to really annoy the Skates!
