Saints wideman is one yellow card away from ban

JASON Puncheon is walking a disciplinary tightrope as he is just one yellow card away from a two-game ban.

The Saints midfielder collected his ninth booking of the season as Saints lost 1-0 to Swindon at St Mary’s on Tuesday night.

Ten bookings for the season will earn Puncehon a two-game ban – but if he can survive until April 11 without collecting another yellow then he will not receive a suspension for the totting up process.

Puncheon could potentially figure in five Saints games between now and April 11.

There is no danger of him missing the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy final because he is already ineligible to play having figured in the competition already this season for MK Dons.

But having made such a big impact he would be hoping to have a place in the teams to face MK Dons, Hartlepool, Brighton, Leyton Orient and Charlton in League One before April 11.

Any player who receives 15 yellow cards in a season picks up a three match ban.

Thankfully for Alan Pardew though Puncheon is the only Saints player who is having to tread carefully.

Would be a pity if we lost him as he seems to be the real deal, but he has to go out and play his normal game, pooh happens!

If Jason does have to walk this tightrope perhaps we could arrange to have the rope strung across the length of St Mary’s at half time. It would make and excellent charity event for Sport Relief and be hugely entertaining (it has to be better then those silly games they play, with the bald guy on the microphone, though I suspect he would still do the commentary). I for one would be happy to use the remaining £17 in the house keeping as sponsorship.

We can't make the play offs he is cup tied so it dosent really matter give some of the other lads a go or get rid of them that's what back up is for

Absolutely. He is knackered and we already know what quality he is so showcase the others and reduce the squad to a sensible size in the summer. Use the money on a keeper for the future and maybe one more midfielder.

Jason P, is looking like a really good buy. I reckon by this time next season he'll be heading towards hero worship amongst the saints fans, in what ever league we're in. Yes while mathematically possible, I for one still think we can get to the play-offs then it is really up to us. But we will need other teams to help us, but as they say football is a funny old game! Looking at the next few games, perhaps JP should take a yellow at MK Dons miss a couple of perhaps easier teams, come back refreshed and raring to go against Charlton. Not sure if that's quite politically correct, but its playing the game. Allan Pardews Red n White Army can't thanks ML and NC enough for given us hope again. COYRs

Spot on, get some of the fringe players in and make them prove their worth.
Give old oxy chambo a try from the start.

I agree that the squad size is a bit large - an expensive luxury for a League One club. I recall some criticism coming to Pards from Charlton fans who thought he overburdened their squad too.
Its too soon to say, once the summer comes I imagine the Chief Exec wil be watching the wage bills.. and there will be some players saying farewell. Thats how it is, life goes on.

Good point well made.
Mr Pardew has been saying for some time now that the Wage Bill is top heavy!
Do you not remember the posts(including the clubs official view??
We need to shed the dead wood!!
This opinnion was shared with us three months ago.
To insinuate that Mr Pardew is doing something wrong as a result of his association with Charlton is just plain wrong.
If that is the best constructive arguement that you are capable of coming up with I would thank you to consider what you choose to post on the next occasion.
I LOVE YOU ANYWAY!!!

Let's all remember our advice to AP etc. that they should "shift some of the dead wood" if, in the summer, some of the players we want to keep decide to leave for greener pastures; loyalty is a two-way thing, and it's no good asking players to keep faith with us if they see the club ditching people when they get the chance.

I'm not saying that we don't need to slim down, but this can be through natural wastage; letting players end their contracts, and then helping them move on. That's what creates loyalty in the players we want to keep; the feeling that Saints is a club that looks after it's own.
