Saints’ JPT final adds to grass-roots fixture chaos

SAINTS’ Wembley trip has created extra misery for grass-roots football officials in the wake of the worst winter weather for three decades.

The adult and youth Sunday leagues were decimated throughout December and January because of rain and frost.

Now another round of games has been drastically reduced in some cases and abandoned altogether in others because so many players are heading to Wembley for the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy final.

And the new raft of postponements will mean the Southampton Tyro Youth League season will have to be extended by a month to nearly the end of May.

The Eastleigh & District Mini League has decided to postpone their entire fixture list despite the fact they have had to cancel all their cup competitions for the second year running because of the winter-weather created fixture chaos.

The Eastleigh 10k is on the same day, the turnout for this will be lower than usual because of Saints trip to Wembley. Don't forget that the clocks go forward that morning as well.

The last day in my 30s and I am going to miss it :-( but I will be cheering the boys on in Antigua.
I am happy with this season, a little sad about the play-offs but I put that down to the poor start not recent results.
Let's all enjoy Wembley and the last few games.
Next year we will go up and watch Poopey drown.

I think the main areas that need inprovement are, right back, possible defensive mid and maybe another back up keeper.
Other than that , its going to be a quiet summer transfer wise.
Boring, but good for the squad.

I would imagine we would have plenty of offers for our galacticos though.

I wonder if the pre season fixtures this year wil be a bit more imaginative?.

Hampshire Cup final Under 13 KO 1330 on 28th. March 2010
Hampshire Cup final Under 16 KO 1530 on 28th. March 2010.
Any local boys who are involved and also Saints fans will have to choose between playing in the Hampshire cup final or going to Wembley.

I stopped for a pint in the Red Lion Stubbington on the Friday night before we played the lot from Fallingdown Park. I got talking to a skate fan who bought me a pint. I did insist he tasted it first in case it was poisoned.

If Swindon brought 2,200 fans on Tuesday night, that means only about 18,500 Saints fans attended!! Where were the other 25,500 "Wembley faithful" and those who claim to go to every home game yet have mysteriously missed out on a JPT final ticket??!! I know March has been an expensive month, but I suspect all these missing fans were in the warm watching Chelsea v. Inter. Very disappointing and I'd say ask yourself if you deserve to be going to Wembley? I know I do!

Well, i wasn't at the match last night, so perhaps i don't deserve my wembley ticket, after all, ive only gone to a tonne of away matches this year, and every JPT match (not to mention the away trip to tranmere). As well as going to numerous matches in the portvliet experiment season, having an ST before that, AND going to 20 matches the year before that.... Think before you post!

I've not my ticket either, I got through on the first day for STH's and bought 1 ticket and would have thought I would have had mine by now.
Could not get through to customer service all day so I sent an email instead.
Got a reply saying if I don't receive ticket by next Weds, contact ticket office and they will provide a duplicate.
It would then be interesting on the day if 2 of us are trying to sit in the same seat, each with authentic tickets. It was also suggested that I let Royal Mail know that I haven't got my mailing.
Call me cynical this might suggest some tampering of mail--let's hope not.

I would love to be going, why put such a negative post towards fellow Saints? Why take it out on people that can't afford £25 every week? Do you just want season ticket holders to go?

The point he makes is a good one. After two five-goal thrillers and a one-nil over Leeds, it is absolutely justified to expect more than 18,000 for the next home game.

I'll add to that...it really gets my goat that some would call the likes of myself a 2nd class fan who doesn't deserve his place at Wembley. I've been to just 6 games this season (2 JPT matches). If life were simple, money grew on trees and I was free of other priorities then I would be there every week (as I was as a youngster). If we had 44,000 STHs I'd say "fair doos...they deserve the places at Wembley before me"....the fact is I still love, follow and support my club from my front room when I can't attend and I don't need some doughnut saying otherwise!!!

I would love to be going, why put such a negative post towards fellow Saints? Why take it out on people that can't afford £25 every week? Do you just want season ticket holders to go? Sorry, but I think you are either a selfish, stupid person or a Poopey fan who is jealous of our worldwide fans.
Hello Norway! Spent many happy years near Moelv working on a farm during school holidays! Problem that you are up against is Zenophobia. Lot of these Dudes think that you are Johnny Foreighner. They dont realise the nature of loving something that other people love as well. "I love it more than you"(They think) It will all come together, but by then it might well be so big that none of us are as comfortable as we would like to be! Lets just owe 700Million like man.u Way forward....I so dont think so! 1 Thousand thanks for listening. COYRAWAPMACHINE!!!!
Somerset Saint didn't mention anybody in particular, and all these people protesting must be feeling that if the cap fits then they might as well wear it. The point he makes is a good one. After two five-goal thrillers and a one-nil over Leeds, it is absolutely justified to expect more than 18,000 for the next home game.
i take your point....here's mine....I'm proud that saints have sold out their 44,000 allocation and could perhaps have sold another 10,000,surely that is a fantastic statement of our potential fan-base.every club sells more tickets for the "bigger games"and as we progress up the leagues our attendances will increase,as do all other clubs attendances ! can we please stop knocking the less regular fans and welcome them, as they are our future.....we cannot do it averaging 20,000...the more the merrier !!! COYR !!!!!
Well said :)

I know March has been an expensive month, but I suspect all these missing fans were in the warm watching Chelsea v. Inter. Very disappointing and I'd say ask yourself if you deserve to be going to Wembley? I know I do!
Very strange post. I have only gone to just one game this season but I feel I am as big a fan as anyone else. Just because I live abroad doesn't make me feel any less of a fan. I dont begrudge anyone going to Wembley. Wish I was going. I will be on foriegn shores. I dont have a season ticket as I like sitting in different parts of the ground. I have spent more on tickets this year than it would cost me to have a season ticket. I dont want to have to sit in one place all the time. Perhaps I just have itchy feet

I fully accept everyone's individual opinion and glad I provoked quite a few sensible and well reasoned responses. However, Norwegian Saint is clearly the exception! You call my post strange, yet come out with ridiculous cr*p about the possibility of me being a Poopey fan who is jealous of Saints worldwide fanbase?!! I would politely suggest you need to take your medication as prescribed and that you are probably not in a fit mental state to make the long journey from Norway to watch Saints at Wembley on Sunday 28th!!
