Wayne Thomas to miss Johnstone's Paint Trophy final

Wayne Thomas will suffer the heartbreak of missing Saints' trip to Wembley in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy final after tearing his calf in training.

The defender, who has been a regular in the Trophy team due to cup ties, sustained the injury in training on Friday.

It is a devastating blow for Thomas who missed all of last season through injury.

There is better news of Radhi Jaidi who sat out the MK Dons game with a hamstring strain but is expected to recover in time for Wembley.

Saints boss Alan Pardew told the Daily Echo: "Thomas is definitely out of the final, Radhi was just feeling a little hamstring and I couldn't risk him. We think he might be alright for Tuesday.

"Thomas pulled his calf, we think he's torn it, on Friday."He's played very well and has been getting better as the season has progressed.

"He's been out for a long, long time and I feel sorry for him because he was probably as near as back to his best as he's been so it's a bit of a blow."

Ouch, I've had this injury so shouldn't be out too long but awful timing for a player who will probably miss his one and only Wembley chance due to age unless we make it end of the season of course ;) Big enough squad to cope at the moment, great 3-0 win today just hope we continue the same...COYR

That's really disappointing and I feel for him. His 'wonder' goal against MK saw us through and he deserves to be there.
.
Feel for you Thommo but take heart in that you very much helped to get us there.
.
Lloyd James will play there I guess as Dan Harding should go back to left back at Wembley, a position he's well used to - not Right Back!

He also scored the winning penalty in the shoot out marathon against The Canaries. He shows a lot of fire in his belly but I somethimes think that he gets a bit close to a red card with his running verbals with the ref, shame though.

Thats a real blow for Thomas as I think he would have started against Carlisle at Wembley. Ive been to most of the games he's played in during the cup runs and the league games he's been needed in and he's always given 100%, won every header and epitomises how a professional attitude should be taken out onto the pitch. If we had 11 players out on the pitch each game with Waynes attitude and determination we'd be pretty much unbeatable. Ok he may have his run ins with the refs now and again but thats the will to win in him. Great result today. Gained points on a few of the teams above. The play offs, the unthinkable is stull possible. COYRs

I feel sorry for Wayne, his Saints career has been fairly start stop and I'd be surprised if he was offered a new deal in the summer given his current wages. He deserved a day out at Wembley, especially as Otsomobor and Seagrave will be cup-tied. Actually, with Antonio also injured we'll be a be light on players eligible.

I feel quite bad for Wayne as he has been a key part of our march to the arch this year with the header against Charlton and the winning penalty against Norwich.

COYR!!!!

Not sure Lloyd James is good enough for right back I'd play.

Davis
? Fonte Jaidi Harding
Lallana Schneirderlin Hammond Antonio
Lambert Papa Waigo

Anyone know whats up with Antonio?

Haven't seen a reported knock for Ants.. We have two of the best wingers in the div and Waigo as a utility so he can't get in the starters.

Having options for starts is good.. A good clean sheet today.

Pards paid testament to Wally Downes for giving him options across the back-line through training. Having James as a utility sub would be best option.

Looking at last start in jpt: Fonte and Ants aren't cup tied but Barnard Otsemobor and Seaborne are. So we could see:

Davis
Harding Fonte Jaidi Mills
Ants Schneiderlin Hammond Lallana Lambert Waigo

Subs: Bialkowski Perry Mills James Oxlade-Chamberain Connolly

Playing Chris Perry at Rb is possible too. Knocks and work at training must surely play a part as Pards will make sure the workers and performers get a much deserved run out onto the hallowed turf.

As well as our stars I'd just love to see young Alex get one in :)

We are going to tear The Jocks apart by 5 goals.

Anyway.. Pretty Pools by the sea.. St Roger described it to me and I do hope the Away travelling fans have a great trip up and a safe one back in time to let the voice recover for the big day out... I'll be here cheering with you...

I have checked the saints web site to see if this injury is shown on there, strangley it's not. I wrote to saints a month ago asking them to update the information on injured players more regularly (i was looking for news of Connelys injury). I was told that the information is updated as soon as Saints feel that acurate information can be put out (it was updated yesterday). Is this another time when the Echo has jumped the gun, perhaps Pards. didn't want the opposition to know that Thomo is injured, or perhaps he's not.
.
On a brighter note, I had to go out immediatley after the match yesterday afternoon, so didn't have time to see the other results; get in there Walsall.

COYR's keep marching

Un lucky thommo, bad news for a player that has truly embraced the "saints spirit". With thommo you know what your gonna get, commitment, never gives up.
Just got to win it for him.

The curse of the right back:- Murty, Semi, James and now Thommo. I remember a couple of years back when we seemed to lose every centre back through injury.
As long as it doesn't spread through the forwards we should still win more than we lose.

SOMETHING A LITTLE SPECIAL AT SILVERSPOONS!!, As part of the 10 mad men walking to wembley, and to raise money for their chosen charity, Everyman, they will be auctioning off 3 very special items. 1: A JPT final match ball signed by Mr Rickie Lambert. 2: A replica England shirt, signed by Fabio Capello's 1st ever squad... and 3: A replica 1966 world cup shirt signed by Geoff Hurst. No money to be taken on the day, just details to be exchanged ect.....we have all ready had bids on the shirts, so we're starting at £150 for the england shirt and £200 for the Geoff Hurst shirt.

DO NOT LET LLOYD JAMES NEAR THE STARTING 11 PARDEW!!

Did everyone see how woeful (as usual) he was against Swindon when he came on?? I'm in Block 42 - if you stand there you'll know me as the guy who only shouts when this Welsh idiot is brought on.

I say Chris Perry is our best option - he reads the game so well that his pace isn't as great a consequence as it could be. Lloyd is like having a cardboard cut-out defending for you.
