Privett show is best of season

OUTSTANDING: George Kimber OUTSTANDING: George Kimber

GOSPORT BOROUGH RES 0 Dorchester RES 0 ROBBIE Taylor was full of praise for his young charges after they held high-flying Gosport Borough to a goalless draw.

With no first-team regulars at their disposal the Magpies’ second string stepped up to the plate at Privett Park and delivered arguably their best display to date.

Boss Taylor said: “Nil-nil doesn’t sound exciting but it was a really good game and that was probably the best the lads have played this season.

“Our teamsheet didn’t contain any recognisable senior names so we had a very young side out, but I couldn’t fault any of them.

“It was a very mature and professional performance, they did everything we asked of them and they really stepped up a gear.

“Danny Way and George Kim-ber were both outstanding, as were two of the new faces in Sam and Max Buckler.

“The whole team played well though and it was one of those nights were everything clicked. It was a real pleasure to watch as it was some of the best football we have played.

“It would have been nice to have come away with the win but it was a good all-round performance.”

The level of performance left their second-placed hosts growing increasingly frustrated.

Taylor added: “The pitch was hard and it was very cold, and Gosport actually tried to get the game called off at half-time.

“We dominated the game to be fair and were asking all the questions. They were getting frustrated, especially on their bench, and they were trying to get the game abandoned.”

Dorchester Town Reserves will now be aiming for a repeat show when they travel to eighth-placed AFC Totton (3pm), who lie three points adrift of the county town outfit in the Wyvern Premier League.

The Magpies’ manager said: “The lads can’t wait for Satur-day’s game now. There was a real buzz in the dressing room after Tuesday’s game and they kept talking about how well each other had played.

“The first team are also playing on Saturday so the younger lads know they have a good chance of starting again at Totton, and they are all looking forward to it.”
