BARNSTAPLE TOWN 3 BRIDPORT 0
BRIDPORT suffered an off day as they slumped to a disappointing defeat at fellow strugglers Barnstaple Town in the Toolstation Western Premier Division.
The Bees were below par for much of the afternoon and were duly punished by the North Devon outfit who could have had a few more.
Boss Trevor Senior said: “We started okay in the first 10 minutes but after that we looked very lethargic.
“Once again the pitch was not conducive to free-flowing football and they adapted to the conditions a lot better than we did.
“They got the ball forward quickly and had two lads up front who were very sharp and caused us a lot of problems.
“Tom Richardson had a couple of chances for us but we ended up going into the break two down and were perhaps a little lucky it wasn’t more.
“In the second half there was a bit of a response but even though we got up the field a little more and enjoyed some decent spells of possession we still couldn’t create any clear-cut openings.
“They then grabbed another goal on the break with 10 minutes remaining and that was it.
“We just didn’t perform as we know we can do.
“You can sometimes get away with two or three having an off day but when there are seven or eight it becomes very difficult.
“All we can do now though is put it to bed and move on.”
The defeat has seen the Bees fall to fourth-bottom in the table but they still remain eight points above the drop-zone.
Senior, whose side travel to Brislington on Saturday, added: “It is good that we have that cushion but we also have quite a tough run-in, so it is important now we try and kick on a little bit.”
Bees: Filkins, Condliffe, C Clarke, J Charles (Hill 30), Senior, Hayter, Legg, Wise, Richardson, Watts (Conning 60), Morgan (McAllister 75).
