Alastair Cook and Steven Finn produced career-best performances as England beat Pakistan in Abu Dhabi.
Hampshire's Danny Briggs was not included in England's side for the first one-day international of the four-match series.
But despite two wickets in as many balls from another Hampshire star - Shahid Afridi dimissed Kevin Pietersen and Jonathan Trott in quick succession - England made 260-7.
Having won the toss, captain Cook eventually became the fourth of Saeed Ajmal's five victims after making 137 (142 balls, 14 fours).
Then Finn produced a devastating burst of 4-34 before Samit Patel, picked ahead of Briggs as Graeme Swann's spin twin, took 3-26 as Pakistan were dismissed for 130.
