A TEAM of Tottenham Hotspur legends, including Andy Sinton and Mark Falco, helped to raise around £4,000 for a children’s football club.

The Spurs legends side took on a side made up of former managers and coaches of Basingstoke Town Colts FC as part of a fundraising afternoon at the club’s Water End ground.

In addition to Falco, who scored 98 goals for Tottenham, and former England winger Sinton, other players taking to the pitch included Ireland international Tony Galvin and John Lacy, who played alongside Bobby Moore for Fulham in the 1975 FA Cup final for Fulham.

Lacy opened the scoring as the Spurs side won the game 8-0 – but Basingstoke Town Colts were the real winners, with somewhere in the region of £4,000 being raised towards the refurbishment of the club’s changing rooms.

Lee Atkins, chairman of Basingstoke Town Colts, said: “The day went very well. Tottenham sent down a strong team and while the weather was indifferent, by the time things started it was fine.

“It was a successful afternoon all round.

“Our guys were a credit to the club and the Tottenham lads were real gentlemen. They had a few drinks with us afterwards and mingled with everyone.”
