Town boss signs final two squad members
10:00am Monday 30th July 2012 in Hampshire Sport By John Boyman
Toby Little has re-signed for Basingstoke Town.
BASINGSTOKE Town manager Jason Bristow has applied the finishing touches to his squad for the 2012-13 season by signing defenders Toby Little and Chris Paterson.
Left-sided player Little has joined on non-contract terms, while former Hartley Wintney centre-back Paterson has put pen to paper on a one-year deal at the club.
Little, left, is well known to the Camrose faithful having spent last season at the club. The 23-year-old, who has also represented Hayes and Yeading United and Woking, was a regular at left-back under Frank Gray, making 39 appearances and scoring twice in 2011-12.
“Toby showed an excellent attitude at the end of last year,” Bristow said. “He was not in the team but kept doing that little bit extra in training, while he has come back for pre-season and worked very hard.
“His delivery into the box is very good and we are trying to encourage him to get further up the pitch. Playing as a wing-back might suit him if we can get him into dangerous areas and on the ball.”
Paterson, who is 22, spent last season playing Combined Counties Division One football with Hartley Wintney, four levels below the Blue Square Bet South, but he has looked very much at home throughout pre-season.
Bristow said: “Chris impressed us when we played Hartley Wintney last season and did the same when we asked him to come in pre-season.
“There are things he needs to work on but he has got the right attitude and wants to improve. That is the sort of attitude we are looking for and hopefully we can make him a better player.”
Both Little and Paterson started as Basingstoke drew 1-1 with AFC Totton in a friendly at the Testwood Stadium on Friday night. See The Monday Gazette for a full report from that game.
