Bristow hopes Town will learn from Bournemouth defeat
1:00pm Thursday 2nd August 2012 in Hampshire Sport By John Boyman
Shaun McAuley races to challenge a Bournemouth player.
JASON Bristow said there were plenty of positives to take from his Basingstoke Town side’s 5-1 defeat at the hands of AFC Bournemouth – and he insists he is still looking forward to Saturday’s visit from another League One side.
The Town boss saw his team cut apart at times on Tuesday night but insists that the home side got plenty out of the game.
“It was excellent for us,” Bristow said. “They sent a strong side down and it was a fantastic workout for us.
“We are a good side but we have come up against an excellent side tonight. They passed it well, moved around and found gaps. “There is a lot to work on but also a lot of positives and some good individual performances out there. I thought Rob Rice was superb, while Wes Daly had a good game and Nathan Smart had a tough night but stood up to that.”
Next up for Basingstoke is a friendly visit from another League One club in the form of Brentford – but Bristow says that Saturday’s game (kick-off 3pm) is another to enjoy.
“Brentford are another team we are looking forward to playing and it should be a good occasion,” he added. “It will be another tough game but that is a good thing.”
Town have announced an extra pre-season game next Tuesday, when they will travel to Southern League outfit Hungerford Town.
