BACK IN THE HIVE: Ryan Dovell has rejoined the Bees from Dorchester Town
BISHOP SUTTON 0 Bridport 0
RYAN Dovell has rejoined the hive – swapping Dorchester Town for the Bees.
The versatile forward left Bridport last summer to test himself at a higher level.
And after 36 appearances for the Blue Square Bet South Magpies, the 32-year-old has decided to return to St Mary’s Field, much to the delight of Trevor Senior.
Speaking after last night’s goalless draw at Bishop Sutton, the Bridport boss said: “It’s a big signing for us.
“I think things haven’t worked out quite as he had hoped at Dorchester. He perhaps hadn’t performed as well as he would have liked and he was down the pecking order.
“He just wanted to be playing regularly and from our point of view we know what he is all about.
“It did come out of the blue but we had a chat, he thought about it over the weekend and he has decided to come back. He’ll be available for Saturday’s home game with Bitton (3pm), which is great.”
The Bees continued their unbeaten start to the new Toolstation Western Premier Division by earning a point at Bishop Sutton.
And they did it the hard way, losing Sam Buckler to a second bookable offence and seeing Sam Filkins save a late penalty to ensure parity.
Senior added: “I’m not one to criticise officials but we didn’t get any help from the man in the middle.
“Ten minutes from time Sam Buckler slid in for a challenge in the middle of the park and as he had already been booked he got a second yellow, but it seemed the ref couldn’t get his card out quick enough.
“We had to regroup with 10 men but we weathered everything they threw at us.
“Then, Sam Filkins saved a shot and as their forward went in for the loose ball, Sam pushed it against the player’s legs and it rolled wide.
“However, the ref decided to give a penalty.
“It was never a penalty but Sam guessed the right way and in my view justice was done.
“I would have taken a point before the game and we deserved it for our endeavour.
“The important thing was we kept a clean sheet, and although we didn’t create lots of chances, we still had enough to win the game.
“I said before the game that we were looking to take points off the top six from last season and we have done that at the first attempt.”
