WHITCHURCH will be hoping to move a step closer to Wembley when they entertain Bristol Academy in the FA Vase on Saturday.

’Church will be hoping to repeat last week’s showing as they hit visiting Laverstock and Ford for six as they stormed to the top of the Sydenhams League divi¬ sion one.

After the visitors opened the brighter, Tom Pemberton – with a stunning 35 yard screamer – gave the home side the lead.

That advantage was then doubled five minutes later as George Dallarda curled in a free-kick from 20 yards.

Paul Coventry then had a number of chances before completing the first-half scoring as he curled the ball in with his left foot.

After the break, Coventry netted his second this time with his right foot, and then Issac Sedu scored twice to complete the 6-0 scoreline.

Afterwards Jim Macey said: “It was a great way to start the league and we scored some lovely goals – Tom Pemberton’s is probably the goal of the season already.”

For Saturday’s game ’Church have an injury worry over defender Zac Reynolds, while Jon Rimmer is expected to return to the squad.

On Tuesday night, Whitchurch lost 4-3 at Eversley and California in the Hampshire Senior Cup after being 4-1 down.

The game started well for the visitors as Nicky Jupp opened the scoring and they could have been well clear before the home side equalised from a sweetly struck free-kick.

From there they took over, netting another three in a 10-minute spell to lead 4-1 at half-time.

After the break ’Church hit back through Dallarda and a 25-yard strike from Luke Walker.

After that Sedu hit the post and three good saves denied Dallarda and Jamie Dockree as they came close to an equaliser.
