Eastleigh complete Mills signing
9:31am Friday 28th September 2012 in Hampshire Sport
Although the 24-year-old, 6ft 3in defender/midfielder has been playing in the Sydenhams League for the last two seasons, he boasts a rich pedigree.
Having started out a youth player for Swindon Town, he was signed by Tottenham Hotspur as a 16-year-old in 2004 for a reported initial fee of £150,000.
He gained Football League experience on loan at Gillingham and played in the same England under-17 squad as Theo Walcott , Michael Mancienne and Fabrice Muamba.
Mills was released by Spurs in February 2009 and he had a spell out of football before signing for his hometown club Winchester in July 2010.
Last season he captained City to the Sydenhams Premier title and promotion to the Southern League, but he parted company with the club earlier this month following financial restructuring.
Although new Eastleigh boss Richard Hill has won his first two games in charge, he believes the Spitfires lacked a player of Mills’s versatility.
“The squad is short of the type of player who plays adequately in three or four positions,” he said. “That type of player is worth his weight in gold.”
