Hampshire cricket have awarded contracts to batsman Michael Roberts and Jack Sheppard for next season.
Batsman Roberts, 23, has been awarded a full contract after scoring 610 runs at 50.8 in seven Second Eleven Championship matches – including two centuries in August.
He came to Hampshire’s attention playing alongside Shaun Udal for Berkshire in the Minor Counties Championship and he also played one Clydesdale Bank 40 game for the Unicorns, a team of young players on the fringes of the professional game, this year.
Salisbury-born seamer Jack Sheppard joins Adam Rouse and Sean Terry on a development contract.
The Academy product was Hampshire’s joint-leading wicket-taker in the SEC with 16 scalps at 27.06, including a best return of 5-63 against Sussex at Horsham.
Sheppard, 19, played one game for England Under-19s last year and was also impressive for South Wilts last season.
Manager Giles White said: “Michael and Jack have worked extremely hard in the Second Eleven this season and shown the attributes required to potentially be first-class cricketers.
