Gloucester end Eastleigh Cup dream

Eastleigh’s FA Cup dream is over after they were beaten 1-0 at Gloucester City in this afternoon’s third qualifying round tie.

A first half goal from Tom Hamblin sentenced the Spitfires to defeat in a game played at Cheltenham Town’s ground.

Eastleigh boss Richard Hill believed his side deserved a replay, especially after an improved second half showing. He said: “I don’t think that was a fair result as we had the balance of play. “We deserved a draw after that. “We knew they would play a direct game, using the diagonals and we would have to match them - but that only happened in the last 15 minutes. Until then we were devoid of ideas.”
