- Auckland beat Hampshire by 8 wickets with 33 balls to spare, ending the Royals' hopes of qualifying for the Champions League in South Africa.
- Man-of-the-match Azhar Mahmood took 5-24 before hitting 55* from just 31 balls at Supersport Park, Centurion.
- Michael Carberry's 65-ball 65 helped Hampshire to 121-8, but he lacked support and it never looked like being enough.
3:20pm
Hampshire captain Dimi Mascarenhas: "It's shame when the wicket dictates the whole game. To their credit they got it in right areas and we were never going to win with 120.
"The toss was where it went wrong firstly but Carbs played nicely. We thought we had a chance of 140 at one stage, but we kept losing wickets.
"We knew it would be tough and hoped Auckland would lose yesterday so we'd get the double chnace.
"But we still want to beat Sialkott tomorrow - we don't want to go back on the back of another defeat."
3:08pm
Auckland win by 8 wickets with 33 balls to spare. Fitting that Azhar Mahmood should score the winning runs, a square cut 4 against Glenn Maxwell's third ball.
3:08pm
6! Mahmood sweeps Afridi over mid-wicket to bring up his 12th T20 fifty - off just 29 balls. 119-2
3:06pm
4! This is looking a different wicket to the one Hampshire batted on...111-2
3:04pm
RT @karthik_parimal: Auckland do look a very motivated team. The fact that they landed at SA for practice two weeks prior to the tournament says it all #CLT20

3:04pm
4! 4! What an all-round performance this is from Mahmood (40*). Successive fours, cut and pulled against Ervine, have taken Auckland to the cusp of victory. 106-2 (13)
3:00pm
A mixed bag of an Afridi over included three wides. 93-2 (12)
2:57pm
WICKET! Kabir Ali takes the catch at long on, Guptill falling to Afridi for 38 (31 balls). 90-2 (11.1)
2:56pm
6! 14 off Dawson's first over, ended by Mahmood's colossal hit into the main stand at Supersport Park. 90-1 (11)
2:53pm
6! Mahmood took a step back and clobbered Dawson's first ball for a flat maximum into a pool of water way beyond the cover boundary. 82-1 (10.1)
2:51pm
Better from Sean Ervine but it's only a matter of time now. Big shame that tomorrow's second game against the Sialkot Stallions will be a dead rubber. 76-1 (10)
2:47pm
Ervine on now, with Auckland needing just 50 from 11 overs. 72-1 (9)
2:45pm
4! Mahmood cuts Afridi away for another boundary
2:44pm
6! Another maximum high over mid-wicket, this time from Azhar Mahmood. Might be worth Chris Wood switching to over the wicket...67-1 (8)
2:43pm
6! Guptill flicks Wood over the rope at mid-wicket. Auckland no doubt helped by an extra 2 weeks prep in SA, having flown out a fortnight before Hampshire's arrival at the weekend.
2:40pm
Encouraging start from Afridi, just the 3 off his 1st over. 53-1 (7)
2:38pm
Talking of magic, Afridi is now on...
2:37pm
That Adams catch gets better with every replay but Hampshire need a lot more magic. Otherwise they'll be going home on Friday. 50-1 (6)
2:36pm
WICKET Former Auckland man Jimmy Adams held on to a sensational catch in the covers immediately after Chris Wood had shelled a return catch. Vincent gone for 19 (16 balls). 49-1 (5.4)
2:33pm
Auckland Aces making a mockery of our batting display @hantscricket
— @SteveyAsp 10 October 2012
2:33pm
followed by a wide...
2:32pm
Chris Wood conceded a one-bounce 4 to Guptill with his first ball... 47-0 (5.1)
2:31pm
@hantscricket are going to struggle to defend this; only one lower total defended at Centurion #clt20
— @Jono_HB 10 October 2012
2:31pm
Dimi frustrated after conceding three fours in 4 balls to Vincent. 43-0 (5)
2:30pm
@hantscricket Come on Royals, do what we've done before and bowl well to restrict the opponents
— @MikeJresearch 10 October 2012
2:30pm
Cor! Welcome to the #CLT20..... @hantscricket being totally outclassed here! Shame but Auckland far better in all departments!
— @BenStanners 10 October 2012
2:29pm
Vincent breaks his bat driving Dimi for 4 over mid-off. 35-0 (4.3)
2:27pm
That's 14 from 3 deliveries for Guptill v Kabir, far too much width. Kabir replied with a couple of slower balls but it's Auckland's over. 30-0 (4)
2:25pm
6! Martin Guptill has driven Kabir for a straight maximum, at 91 metres the biggest today.
2:24pm
Auckland 15-0 (3) after a rare drop from Bates standing up to Dimi. A half chance in fairness but one you would expect him to take.
2:23pm
Glenn Maxwell: "Losing the toss on an interesting wicket didn't help."
2:20pm
Good last delivery from Kabir, a full-length inswinger. 13-0 (2)
2:18pm
3 runs to deep mid-off for NZ star Guptill. 12-0 (1.4)
2:16pm
Kabir's first ball is a full toss on leg stump but he's got away with it. Just a Guptill single. 8-0
2:15pm
2 wides in that opening Dimi over 7-0 (1)
2:14pm
Lou Vincent's carved the Aces' first boundary through the covers... 6-0
2:11pm
Danny Briggs would have been invaluable on this wicket, but it should also suit Dimi Mascarenhas, who has started with a dot ball
2:09pm
Good luck later 2day 2 @dimimascarenhas @daws128 @CWoody27 @vincey14 @slug_7 @carbs646 and all @hantscricket in champ lge qualifier #royals

1:58pm
Andre Adams: "It's a bit of a sticky wicket, even I was turning it! But the sun's out so hopefully it will flatten out for us."
1:57pm
Sensational 1-handed catch plucked by Vincent on the long-off boundary finally saw off Carbeerry for a run-a-ball 65, but the Royals still took 12 off that last over. They finish on 121-8 to at least ensure that Auckland will need just over a run-a-ball.
1:51pm
Carberry begins the final over by guiding Bates full toss for 4 to wide long-on boundary
1:51pm
Carberry survives after skying another attempted pull. Mahmood just misses out on a c & b but he's got to be happy with a career-best 5-23. 109-7 (19)
1:48pm
WICKET Mahmood has his 5th wicket, Mascarenhas slicing to the cover boundary, gone for a 2-ball 0. 108-6 (18.3)
1:46pm
WICKET Dawson's top-edged pull v Mahmood goes for another 4 vital runs - but then he drives straight to cover for 13 (11 balls). 108-6 (11.2)
1:45pm
Valuable Carberry 4 squeezed off his legs to deep backward square. 104-5 (18)
1:44pm
Hampshire 100-5 (18), but need 2 big overs to be competitive
1:42pm
Carberry has his 11th T20 fifty. His 51* from 58 balls has kept the Royals in this game. 98-5
1:40pm
the left-arm seam of Michael Bates is returning... 2-0-6-0 so far
1:39pm
Dawson's doing a good job keeping Carberry (49*) company and on strike. 95-5 (17)
1:38pm
Carberry goes to 44 by driving an Adams full toss through deep cover - then slashes another boundary to third man. 93-5
1:37pm
Hampshire are going to struggle to get the 130 manager Giles White reckons they need. 85-5 (16)
1:34pm
Carberry's done exceptionally well. Ball's not coming on but he's 39* and Dawson (3*)is with him. 5 overs to go. 83-5 (15)
1:32pm
how was that not a 4? Are Hampshire gonna get any luck? #CLT20
— @asportingbuddha 10 October 2012
1:32pm
Replays determining whether Mills stopped Carberry's late cut inside the rope...strangely, the answer's yes. 81-5
1:29pm
Aussie Maxwell would have loved to pummell the Kiwis, but young Hira got the wicket the New Zealanders most wanted. 78-5 (14)
1:28pm
WICKET Glenn Maxwell has gone! That's the last thing Hants needed. 11 from 7 balls. Caught on long-on boundary. 77-5 (13.5)
1:26pm
Hopefully this is the calm before the Maxwell storm. 75-4 (13)
1:23pm
Another Maxwell 4, guided down to rope at fine-leg. 72-4
1:22pm
Glenn Maxwell nicks his first ball for 4 v Mahmood
1:21pm
WICKET! Ervine's gone for a run-a-ball 16, splicing to long-on against Hira. 64-4 (12)
1:20pm
#CLT20 Carberry really punishing Auckland Aces. Hampshire 63 -3 after 11.3 overs.
— @The_New_Age 10 October 2012
1:19pm
One-bounce 4 from Carberry, powerfully pulled v NZ international Hira
1:18pm
Big Ervine 6 against Ronnie Hira over mid-wicket, hitting with the slow left-armer's turn. 58-3
1:17pm
Kyle Mills (4-0-22-0) has bowled beautifully to left-handers Carberry 28* and Ervine 9*. 51-3 (11)
1:15pm
Hampshire manager Giles White: "It's a tough wicket, but if get 130 we've got half a chance."
1:13pm
Ervine makes the most of a full toss from young slow left-armer Ronnie Hira. Easy 4 runs, but Hampshire have to accelerate soon. 48-3 (10)
1:10pm
Hampshire 41-3 (9). The Royals need a good last 11 overs but have the firepower.
1:09pm
1st 4 in more than 3 overs for Hants as Carberry's cut against Adams flies over cover. 40-3 in the 9th
1:08pm
Hampshire 36-3 (8), just the 4 singles off that Michael Bates over. Carberry's 18*, Ervine's 3*.
1:04pm
Good over from Andre Adams, who's well known to Hants from their clashes with Notts over the years. 32-3 (7)
1:03pm
all 3 wickets in 14 Mahmood deliveries
1:00pm
Hampshire going at less than a run-a-ball with Vince, Adams and Afridi all back in the hutch. 29-3 (6)
12:58pm
WICKET! Great catch from Andre Adams at long on, Afridi out for a 4-ball duck. 28-3 (5.4)
12:56pm
Supersport Park emptier than the Ageas Bowl on the 1st day of a County Championship match
12:54pm
Steep bouncer from Kyle Mills, followed by a top-edged 4 from a Carberry pull. Playing at altitude ensures the ball travels like Hants have not experienced before at this level. 27-2 (5)
12:52pm
The pull is Carberry's favourite shot but, other than the top-edged 6 early on, it's not coming off at the moment.
12:51pm
Afridi's form with the bat was poor at the World Twenty20, but he's in at 4
12:50pm
WICKET Jimmy Adams gone for a 3-ball duck, ct behind after driving loosely at a wide ball. Excellent comeback from Mahmood, following that first six with 2wkts and three dots.

Jimmy Adams lost at this stage of the Champions League with the Aces last year
12:48pm
Jimmy Adams in against his former Auckland teammates...

12:44pm
Mahmood coming on, a familiar face to Hants from county cricket

Vince's first 4 slashed high over Mahmood at slip
12:42pm
Carbs cuts Mills to fielder on the cover boundary. 12-0 (2.3)

12:34pm
Good comeback from NZ international Kyle Mills, Carberry guiding last ball of 1st over for a single down to deep backward point. 9-0 (1)
12:32pm
Carberry's just hit 6! Top edged pull v Mills over fine leg
12:31pm
Carberry dives into the crease, taking two after working first ball into leg side
12:26pm
Dimi admits that Hampshire would also have bowled first
12:25pm
